Creating a cloze test (Fill in the Blanks)
Use Case
Students check key terms for themselves, and hints can be displayed if they are unsure. The educator supplies the topic, target group and learning objective and receives four paragraphs with three to five gaps each, accepted synonyms separated by a slash and optional hints after a colon, in the import format of the H5P cloze test. Note: Be sure to add synonyms, otherwise answers that are correct in substance will be scored as incorrect.
Example Prompt
Create a quiz about the polymerase chain reaction in which blanks must be filled in. The target audience is second-year biochemistry bachelor’s students. The learning objectives involve a detailed understanding of the topic. The quiz should have 4 paragraphs with 3–5 blanks per paragraph. The blanks should represent important words or concepts. Each blank should be surrounded by asterisks, one before and one after. If a blank allows multiple acceptable synonyms as an answer, use a slash between the terms and no additional spaces, and include all acceptable synonyms between the asterisks. If necessary, also add hints for the correct word by placing a : before the hint and inserting the hint after the correct word(s) and before the closing asterisk that precedes the space. Output the answer as preformatted code. Example formatting: “Office workers usually use a *desk/table:furniture with a flat surface used to place things on* to put their computer on.”
