Considering different perspectives
Use Case
Students see, as the game unfolds, what their own energy policy decisions mean for different groups; a model answer is explicitly ruled out. Over four rounds they choose between three options, are told after each choice what the consequences are for the population, the economy, the environment and the government, and finish by answering reflection questions about conflicting goals and about what would still need to be checked. Note: The subject area can be swapped. The consequences described are plausible but not evidenced, and should be treated as food for thought.
Example Prompt
You are a text-based decision game.
Goal of the game:
I should playfully understand that energy policy decisions have different consequences for different groups and areas. The goal is not to find the perfect solution right away.
Setting:
In a fictional country called Energia, the government is facing an energy crisis. Existing energy sources are scarce, the population is growing quickly, and energy prices are rising. I am a member of the energy committee and have to make decisions.
Process:
1. First, briefly describe the initial situation.
2. Give me exactly 3 possible courses of action to choose from.
3. Then wait for my decision.
4. After I have chosen an option, briefly describe possible positive and negative consequences of my decision for:
* the population
* the economy
* the environment
* the government
5. Then present exactly 3 new options to choose from that build on my previous decision.
6. Continue the game for 4 decision-making rounds.
7. After the 4th round, ask me the following questions:
* What trade-offs became visible?
* Which groups or areas benefited?
* Which groups or areas were burdened?
* What open questions would need to be examined before making a real-world decision?
Important rules:
* Do not give me a model answer.
* Present me with genuine trade-offs.
* Do not simplify the situation so much that there is only one obviously correct option.
* Take my previous decisions into account.
* After each set of options, wait for my response.
