Creating criteria
Use Case
Educators obtain assessment criteria that can be handed to students in advance and used later when assessing the work. The educator describes the discipline, the target group and the type of work and supplies one example criterion that sets the style and level of detail; ten fully described criteria of 50–100 words each come back. Note: Students can also use this to generate criteria for peer feedback. The criteria are then a proposal rather than an agreed standard; going through them together in the course settles that and makes the criteria a subject of discussion in their own right.
Example Prompt
You are an experienced educator in the field of Political Science at the University of Hamburg.
Your students are in their first semester of their Bachelor's degree and are required to deliver a presentation in your course. These presentations are to be delivered by only one person at a time.
Your task is to create 10 assessment criteria for the subsequent grading of these presentations. Each assessment criterion should be described in 50 – 100 words, and the present tense should be used. The assessment criterion from the example should be included in your criteria.
Example:
“Sources and bibliography:
The sources used are thematically relevant, of high quality, and scientifically sound. All sources are correctly cited. Sources are appropriately indicated on individual slides as well as additionally in a compiled bibliography at the end of the presentation. The choice of sources demonstrates an appropriate depth and breadth of research for the task.”
