Offering choices, e.g., in station-based learning / learning islands
Use Case
A first draft of a learning station with an element of choice, in a single step. The educator describes the topic, target group, time frame and desired structure and receives concrete compulsory and optional tasks at different levels of difficulty, along with suggested materials (texts, videos, podcasts), each labeled by level and by whether it is compulsory. Note: Suggested materials are particularly error-prone – check that every source named exists, is accessible and is suitable.
Example Prompt
I would like to design a learning island on the topic “Growth mindset.” The learning island should contain tasks with different levels of difficulty and include different learning materials (texts, videos, podcasts) that can be used. Some of the tasks should be mandatory, others optional. For the optional tasks, participants can freely choose which tasks they want to work on and which they do not.
The learning island should be used as an introduction to the topic, and there are 60 minutes available.
The target group for the learning island are first-semester bachelor’s students in psychology. The seminar takes place at the University of Hamburg.
Please make concrete suggestions for tasks and materials that can be used for the tasks. The engagement with the topic should be at a scientific level.
Please indicate the level of difficulty of each task and whether it is a mandatory or optional task.
For the materials, specific references to materials you know would be great.
