Adjusting difficulty: making texts that are too complex usable
Use Case
A text that is too difficult for students becomes accessible without being replaced: because every explanation quotes the passage it refers to, the explanation stays traceable and the original stays in view. The educator inserts the original text and receives a detailed explanation in plain language, with the relevant passage quoted at each step. Note: Check the explanation before passing it on – simplification can shift the meaning. Mind copyright when uploading texts.
Example Prompt
Please explain the following text to me in very clear and detailed simple English.
In your explanation, always quote the respective section of the original text you are referring to in the original language.
Here is the original text:
“An autopoietic machine is a machine organized (defined as a unity) as a network of processes of production (transformation and destruction) of components which: (i) through their interactions and transformations continuously regenerate and realize the network of processes (relations) that produced them; and (ii) constitute it (the machine) as a concrete unity in space in which they (the components) exist by specifying the topological domain of its realization as such a network.”
