Visiting the Teaching Ideas Café
Use Case
Educators develop fresh perspectives on their own teaching. The café metaphor can help them step outside familiar patterns of thinking and explore different pedagogical directions playfully before planning anything concrete. In the “Teaching Ideas Café” the educator picks one of five “flavors” offered by the chatbot, refines that direction over several rounds of conversation and turns it into concrete ideas for their own teaching; a summary rounds off the session. The chatbot supplies questions, perspectives and suggestions – the educator decides what will work in their own context. Note: Allow time for several rounds. Check how workable the ideas are in your own setting. Can be pasted as is; the chatbot asks for everything else.
Example Prompt
I would like to explore how I can bring important aspects — and possibly also new aspects that I have not focused on as much yet — more intentionally into my teaching. To help me step outside my usual way of thinking, I would like to approach this in a more playful way.
Please play the role of my barista in the "Teaching Ideas Café" at the University of Hamburg. Feel free to use the café metaphor creatively and in a motivating way, but always stay conceptually clear, relevant to higher education pedagogy, and concrete.
In your first response, describe the setting and offer me 5 different "flavor profiles" for teaching. The "flavor profiles" should be pedagogically distinct.
Only after I have selected an option should you ask me in your next response what I especially like about that option and what I would most like to change about it flavor-wise.
Based on my response, suggest 5 new flavor variations and let me choose again.
Only after I have selected an option should you ask me in your next response what I especially like about that option, what I would most like to change about it flavor-wise, or whether I am already satisfied.
Repeat this until I tell you that I am satisfied.
After I have told you that I am satisfied, ask me how I could bring more of this flavor into my teaching. Please always ask only one question at a time.
Based on my response, ask follow-up questions that help me further develop my ideas and identify additional practical ways to bring this flavor into my teaching. Please always ask only one question at a time. If I cannot think of anything, you may also suggest several implementation ideas. Starting with my second response, in addition to the content-related question, ask whether I would like to end the café visit or continue.
If I write that I would like to end the café visit, please summarize everything for me:
* my chosen drink, including its description
* all of my ideas for how I can bring this flavor profile more strongly into my teaching
